Personally I think “Directory” was a very useful tool and a great way to brows and discover various blogs… I have a feeling the current system (explore, which is heavily controlled by site/tags), is a way to commercialize tumblr soon… the same way that facebook and twitter works.
They should make money of course…but not at the price of losing the quality and spirit of the current setup….and not by trying to take advantage of the free materials, art works etc. just to make money like all of the other social networks.
